To empty EcoKatch, lift it using the top tabs, hold it over the trash, and pull the two tabs apart to release collected hair. This opening mechanism is designed to let you dispose of the collected hair without directly handling the clump.
What “no-contact” means
You still handle the hair catcher itself. The benefit is the way its body opens so collected hair can be released into the trash. It does not mean the product cleans itself or never needs rinsing. Hair mixed with soap or product residue may need additional rinsing to release fully.
1. Lift using the top tabs
Once water has drained, lift the catcher out of the compatible bathtub opening using its top tabs. Keep a grip on the product rather than reaching for the collected hair. Move it over your trash container before opening.
2. Pull the tabs apart over the trash
Pull the two tabs apart to open the body and release the hair. Opening it over the trash helps keep collected hair from returning to the drain. Use the product instructions for your exact model and avoid excessive force.
3. Rinse and inspect
Follow the product's care instructions. Rinse as needed and inspect the mesh openings and closing mechanism. No-contact disposal makes the main hair-removal step easier, but residue can still build up on any bathroom accessory.
4. Close and reinstall
Close the catcher according to its instructions, then place it back into the compatible drain. Check that it sits securely and water can drain. The reusable EcoKatch bathtub model is intended for compatible 1.5–1.75-inch inner openings with a center crossbar.
If you are unsure about the support inside your drain, read our drain measurement guide before installing.
How often should you empty it?
Start by checking after each shower while you learn how quickly hair collects. Empty when buildup accumulates or drainage slows. A household with several users may need a different routine from a single-user bathroom. There is no one schedule that works for every home.
Common questions
Why did some hair remain after opening?
Hair can mix with residue. Additional rinsing may be needed; no-contact release is not a promise that every strand always drops out immediately.
Does this remove an existing clog?
No. The catcher collects hair at the opening and does not clear a blockage deeper in the pipe.
Is the hair catcher also a stopper?
No. Check your chosen pack's contents if you need a separate water stopper.
Will it fit a walk-in shower?
Do not assume the bathtub model fits shower-floor drains. Check the stated fit requirements.
